Toll roads and bridges in Turkey

On Turkish motorways and the Istanbul bridges the toll is charged electronically from an HGS tag, a sticker on the windscreen. If you rent a car, ask the rental company whether it has an HGS tag and how the tolls will be charged to you. A car pays 59 TL on the 15 July Martyrs and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges in Istanbul, in each direction.

The Eurasia Tunnel takes no cash or card at the booth either: pay by HGS, on its website or with its app.
The HGS tag
An HGS sticker costs 140 TL and a card-type tag 200 TL at PTT post offices; a balance has to be loaded when you buy it. Tags and top-ups are also sold at partner banks and at Petrol Ofisi, Shell, BP, Opet, TPPD, Total and Aytemiz stations.
Passed without enough balance?
- Paid within 15 days: only the toll.
- From the 16th to the 45th day: the toll plus the same amount again as a fine.
- After the 45th day: the toll plus four times the toll as a fine.
For a foreign-registered vehicle the 15 days are not waited for, but if the toll is paid within 15 days no fine is collected. The toll and the fine are collected without notification, and the vehicle cannot leave Turkey until they are paid.
