Traffic fines in Turkey (2026)

Turkey raised its traffic fines on 27 February 2026 (Law No. 7574). Speeding costs 2,000 TL to 30,000 TL depending on how far over the limit you are, running a red light 5,000 TL and drink-driving 25,000 TL for a first offence. A fine paid within one month of notification is reduced by 25%.

Speed limits for cars
Unless signs say otherwise: 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h on two-lane roads outside towns, 110 km/h on dual carriageways and 120 km/h on motorways.
Paying, foreign plates and hire cars
- A fine paid within one month of notification is reduced by 25%; later, 5% is added for each month started, up to double the fine.
- Fines on foreign-registered vehicles are collected without formal notification, by informing the driver, and the vehicle is not allowed to leave Turkey until they are paid.
- If a camera records a violation by a hire car and the renter can be identified from the records, the fine is issued to the renter.
